This hike past volcanos and emerald sulfur lakes is like nothing I have ever seen. The most famous volcano is depicted in Lord of the Rings as Mt. Doom. We took down a drive down from Hamilton past Taupo to the famous Tongariro Crossing. We did not prepare well for this hike as we did not eat before and did not bring any food. Just a couple bottles of water and we ended up having a lot of energy and finishing the hike in about 5 hours (should take 7). The most rewarding Burgerfuel meal of my life came that night.
